An Ode to Men who try

I wanted to say thank you, I know it doesn’t seem like I appreciate you, but I do

I appreciate you slowing down when I’m around, I try to not be scared but I can’t help it, yet

And for lowering your voice when you get home from work, I don’t want to dribble but sometimes I get so nervous

I appreciate you bringing me for walks, even though mom still has to put the leash on me

I appreciate it when you check on me, I growl sometimes but only because you surprised me

I appreciate the delicious treats you drop, even though I still freeze anytime you try to pet me

I appreciate it when you check on me after yelling at the TV, I’ll still leave the room but I appreciate it.

And I appreciate you for letting me sniff you when you’re laying down, I’ll still bolt anytime you get up, but its my way of getting to know you

Thank you for not staring at me, stepping over me or leaning towards me.

I know these are normal things for other dogs but they’re not for me and I appreciate you while I figure it out.

You are my favorite human man
